bought this for my father who always takes a morning dog walk. He was recently bowled over by a large dog on his walk and was injured. He doesn't carry mace and doesn't want to. The dog warden recommended carrying an air horn (not practical) or some kind of shock device. This is lightweight for carrying in his pocket and is easy to use quickly. No, thankfully, I can't tell you if it'll deter a future attack because he's not run into the dog again; but it hurts a lot when you touch it. Based on how it feels when used and it's convenience, I'm betting it will deter the next over stimulated, aggressive dog. I'm just happy he's willing to carry this as an option.
