Wow! Fancy little butter dish! I needed a butter dish to hold Kerrygold pure Irish butter. This is prefect! I love the little cutter it comes with. Simply cut and drop a little square into my coffee! Mmmmmm!

Yes, I know this is a ridiculous amount of yapping about a freaking butter dish, but this is so much better than I expected. I initially got it because it has that cutter AND built-in storage for it (a feature I'd been actively looking for in butter dishes - why wash knives repeatedly when you can just keep one clean and reuse it?), but it solves all my other problems with butter dishes, including some I didn't know I had. Apparently even the marketing person doesn't know all the features, because they're not in the product photos and description, so I'll try to sing its praises as clearly as I can. I'm actually loving it so much I'm considering giving them out as gifts, but including my own manual so the recipient knows how awesome it is. 1. The knife has a slider that dislodges the butter. Sooooo smart and convenient and superior to mashing a knife into your toast to get the butter off, while crushing said toast. 2. Turn the knife around to the side without the "walls", and it can spread the butter! 3. My favorite secret feature: The bottom is almost as deep as a butter stick, so it can act as a stop so you can "shave" a beautiful long thin curl along the entire length of the stick that'll cover your toast all at once (wayyy better than cutting off tiny pats and struggling to mash them into the toast - try it and thank me later). The shaving pushes the stick in the direction of the push, so in a regular butter dish with a shallow bottom, it'll push the stick right off the dish. I used to have to stop the stick sliding with a finger on the end of the stick, which gets my hand dirty. Now I still have to support the back of the dish, but my hand stays clean. 4. Speaking of things staying clean, the rim of the lid goes OUTSIDE the butter area, so it doesn't get dirty and I don't have to take care to place it on the counter upside down to keep the counter clean. Compare that with a regular glass dish, where the rim sits right in the "well" where the butter sits, and gets all greasy, not to mention the loose fit that lets odors in. 4. On the subject of picking up lids, how does ANYONE pick up the glass lid of a regular dish without a handle? It's slippery and sloped and begging to be dropped and shattered. It's so annoying, I even took to supergluing a fridge magnet knob to my glass dish to form a knob. But this lid is effortless to unlatch with one hand (as advertised) AND to pick up. Though you still need both hands to latch it back up. But that'll be a real boon when I'm cooking and only have one hand to both unlatch and cut the butter (say, because my other hand is full of raw chicken juices and I'm trying to rub delicious butter under the chicken's skin mmmmm) 5. It's designed to hold a whole POUND of butter! This point seems lost on some other reviewers. If you only store one stick in it, you'll be wasting a lot of fridge space. Instead, you can open a pound-box of butter sticks and store the whole thing in it, eliminating the problem of keeping the other 3 sticks fresh. BUT the sizing is unfortunately wrong for the sticks I get around here (Northeastern US). It's slightly too shallow for 2 full sticks. Well, I found a solution: shave a bit off the top of 2 of the sticks! Which is, conveniently, how I'd eat them anyway!
